Cursive writing practice
Once the letters hold hands properly, the work moves to words — short ones first, the ones a child actually writes. Click any list to turn it into a printable sheet.
How long should practice last
Ten minutes a day beats forty minutes once a week. Cursive is a motor skill, and motor skills consolidate overnight — the point of daily practice is not volume, it is frequency. Two rows of one word, done properly, is a complete session for a seven-year-old.
What to watch for
Word spacing. The most common failure once letters are joined is that the spaces collapse and the sentence becomes one long word. Put a finger-width gap between words until the eye learns the rhythm.
Slant. Cursive leans right. If a child's letters stand straight up while the joins lean, the joins break. Turning the paper slightly to the left fixes it more often than instruction does.
Speed. Do not ask for speed. Speed is what happens after the shapes are automatic; asking for it early trains the wrong shapes permanently.
