Cursive P
p is a bowl plus a descender, and beginners tend to draw only the bowl. A cursive p is a short letter, and it hands over to the next letter low.
This is the same renderer the generator uses. Open it with p already filled in to change size, rows and guides, then print.
How to write a cursive p
- Start on the baseline, sweep up to the midline and retrace straight down past the baseline.
- Bring the stroke back up to the midline and curve into a small bowl.
- Close the bowl on the baseline and exit low.
A p sits in the short + descender zone. Capital P is a tall stem from the top line with one bowl closing at the midline.
Joining p to the next letter
p exits at the baseline after the bowl closes. pa, po, pp.
Where it usually goes wrong
The descender is cut short, so p sits on the line like an n with a stem. The downstroke must go below the baseline.
Words to practise after the letter
Once the single letter holds its shape, put it into short words where it appears once: play, up, apple. Type any of them into the generator above and it will lay out eight ruled rows of tracing for you.
