Cursive Z
z is the only lowercase letter built from two horizontal strokes, and both of them sit exactly on a line. A cursive z is a short letter, and it hands over to the next letter low.
This is the same renderer the generator uses. Open it with z already filled in to change size, rows and guides, then print.
How to write a cursive z
- Start on the baseline, sweep up to the midline and run a flat stroke to the right.
- Come back down at an angle to the baseline.
- Run a flat stroke to the right along the baseline and exit low.
A z sits in the short zone. Capital Z follows the same two horizontals between the top line and the baseline.
Joining z to the next letter
z exits at the baseline, so zz and za stay flat and compact. za, zz.
Where it usually goes wrong
The bottom stroke is drawn below the line, which makes z look like a hook. Both horizontals sit exactly on their lines.
Words to practise after the letter
Once the single letter holds its shape, put it into short words where it appears once: zoo, size, puzzle. Type any of them into the generator above and it will lay out eight ruled rows of tracing for you.
