Cursive W
w is two v shapes joined at the midline, so it inherits every fault of v twice. A cursive w is a short letter, and it hands over to the next letter high.
This is the same renderer the generator uses. Open it with w already filled in to change size, rows and guides, then print.
How to write a cursive w
- Start on the baseline, sweep up to the midline.
- Dip to the baseline and rise again to the midline.
- Dip a second time and finish with an exit at the midline.
A w sits in the short zone. Capital W is a double V drawn from the top line down, with all four strokes the same length.
Joining w to the next letter
w is two v shapes, so it also exits high. wa, we, ow.
Where it usually goes wrong
The two dips are different sizes. Both should touch the baseline and both peaks should reach the midline.
Words to practise after the letter
Once the single letter holds its shape, put it into short words where it appears once: we, was, down. Type any of them into the generator above and it will lay out eight ruled rows of tracing for you.
